There are almost 90 direct flights each week from Chicago to Miami, with most departing from the largest airport, O’Hare. These direct flights are provided by a choice of six airlines, with the most popular being American.
As well as O’Hare, there is also a smaller number of direct flights from Chicago Midway Airport. Most flights departing Chicago to Miami land at Miami International, although it is also possible to fly in to Fort Lauderdale, which is located about half an hour by car from the city.

Chicago O’Hare International is located 14 miles to the northwest of the Loop business district. The airport covers a huge area of around 7,600 acres and there are non-stop flights to over 200 destinations around the globe

The other departure point in Chicago is Midway International Airport. It is located around eight miles to the southwest of the Loop and is significantly smaller than O’Hare. However, with annual passenger numbers of more than 22 million, it is still considered a large airport.
The flight path heads out southeast from Chicago towards the southern tip of the Florida peninsula. It crosses Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina and South Carolina before landing in Miami, Florida.
Miami International Airport, also known as MIA, can be found about eight miles to the northwest of downtown Miami. Handling around 45 million passengers every year, it is one of the busiest airports in the US and the biggest in the state.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is situated just over 20 miles to the north of the city of Miami, making it a good alternative destination for flights from Chicago to Miami. Processing about 35 million passengers a year on more than 700 daily flights it is also of the 20 busiest in the US.
